About

The Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency is a governmental body established by proclamation No.179/1999 as a legal frame work and a nation-wide level of responsibilities. It was set up in 1943 with the name public library- wemezekir.  

The Agency has been delivering lots of services such as research and study services, reading services, training services, micro film reading services audio, audio-video recording services and consultancy services particularly to the researchers, scholars, academicians, writers and the public at large to create information informed society.

Mission

Acquire, organize, and preserve Information Resources and create a National Information system to avail the resources for study and research purposes to make the public beneficiary.

 

Vision

Make the Ethiopian National Archives and library Agency one of the five leading African National Archives and library Centers by 2020 where the culture of utilizing information is developed in building democracy and development.

Operate as a national repository centre for printed mater, gray literature, non- printed documents, manuscripts, historical archives and records
ensure the proper handling and safety of records in proven and
serve as a national registry center of ISBN .
