Main Duties of the Directorate among others:-
-Acquisition of Information Resources -Organizations of Information Resources -Preservation and Conservation of Information Resources
1. Acquisition of Information Resource
Based on users' need, the Directorate acquires information resources which have national significance and importance for study and research and reference purposes. The acquisition methods for Information Resources are through purchasing, legal depositing act and gifting. Acquiring oral histories are also included.
The Information Resources are:- Books periodicals Journals Different publications Audio visual materials Records and Archives
2. Organization of Information Resources
In order to make the Information Resources easily and quickly accessible to the users, the Directorate organizes information resources by using Electronic Library Management (ELM) Software, transferring records and archives to the Agency from different provenance and preparing series indexes, series inventories, guide lists and annotations.
The Directorate of the Agency donates books and other publications to develop the capacities of libraries in different parts of the country. Using union catalogue and digital library is the future plan of the agency to have standardized information system for the services rendered . 3. Preservation and Conservation of Information Resources.

To keep information resources from damage, different maintenances such as having enough copies of invaluable documents, digitalizing of information resources, modern & cultural bindings of the documents are the ones to be done in this Directorate.

Now, the Agency is ready to access information exchange between 20 offices of ministries using National Integrated Records and Library Management Systems (NIRLMS) Software at a national level.
